National Trust Wimpole Home Farm - The Heavy Horse Project

The Home Farm at the Wimpole Estate, owned and managed by the National Trust. One of the most important examples of the Soan’s farm layout that survives today as a working farm that has earned it Grade 2 listing.

The project was the complete refurbishment of the Heavy Horse Stables housed in the magnificent thatched stables.

Working closely with the head horseperson, we carried out the following services:

1. Lead Designer, including coordination of the design team.
2. Building Inspection for defect analysis.
3. Design of the new layout, including new external gates and fencing.
4. Submission of Statutory Consents and obtaining approval of Listed Building Consent and Planning Approval.
5. Principal Designer role under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015 (CDM).
6. Preparation of Building Regulation drawings and obtaining approval from the Local Authority Building Control.
7. Preparation of the technical design, including production of construction drawings.
8. Production of a full Specification of Works using NBS software and the CAWS classification system.
9. Invitation to Tender, Tender action, and Tender Analysis with recommendations for the award of contract.
10. Contract Administration, administering the industry-standard Intermediate Contract from the JCT suite of building contracts.
    1. Valuations.
    2. Payment Certificates.
    3. Variations.
    4. Computation of the final account.
    5. Issuing the Final Certificate and making good defects certificate following the 12-month Rectification period.
11. Weekly site visits during the contract period and reporting back to the client.

The project has been a success story due to the efforts and engagement of the client team throughout the project, the contractor, Groupbridge, and us working in a collaborative approach.
