What is a party wall matter?
Under the Party Wall etc. Act 1996, anybody carrying out construction work that affects a shared wall, boundary, or structure between two properties has a responsibility to inform their neighbours.
This can include everything from removing a chimney breast and installing or changing a garden wall to work affecting floors between flats.
It’s important to note that the Act also covers new constructions built up to or across the boundary, as well as excavations within 3 to 6 metres of an adjoining property’s foundations.
